Resirator Fit Testing

Respirators are only effective if they make a full seal.  That is why proper training in donning and care for a respirator is key.

A hair follicle on the forehead is the finest follicle on the body at approximately 66 micrometres.  Silica particles are as small as .01 micrometre.  Asbestos fibres are 2-5 microns on the high end.  Why is that important?  It means without a proper seal; a worker is likely exposed to silicosis or asbestosis or exposure to other airborne contaminants.  Silicosis and asbestosis are both very dangerous and lethal workplace illnesses.

We conduct fit tests to CSA standard Z94.4.  Each worker will get a wallet card certifying their respirator’s fit and the employer will receive a copy of the fit test report.  We use Nextech irritant smoke because it provides a more accurate response for adequate fit.  Fit tests are valid for a period of 12 months from the date of issue.  This 12 month retest is to ensure a proper seal on an ongoing basis.  If a worker obtains a new respirator, fit tests are no longer valid.

We highly recommend fit testing along with Confined Space Entry & Monitor training.  This ensures workers are ready to do their job.  When fit testing is booked with our Confined Space Entry & Monitor training, we will offer a further discount.

Minimum group of 10 fit tests for on site testing.
